The Teatro San Carlo di Napoli has announced a semi-staged production of Verdi’s “La Traviata,” which is set to run throughout mid-May.

The production will be directed by Marina Bianchi and will star Ailyn Pèrez and Aleksandra Kurzak in the role of Violetta, Leonardo Caimi and Ivan Magrì as Alfredo, and George Gagnidze as Giorgio Germont.

Karel Mark Chichon will make his San Carlo debut conducting the famed work.

The production will mark the Teatro San Carlo’s first live audience production since the lockdown in the fall. The company has since created an online streaming platform and has presented such works as “Il Pirata” with Sondra Radvnovsky and “Cavalleria Rusticana” with Jonas Kaufmann and Elina Garanca. The company has also announced its summer season which will feature Anna Netrebko and several high-profile stars.

“La Traviata” opens on May 14 and runs through May 23, 2021.
