Agneta Eichenholz, Jamez McCorkle, Anna Goryachova, Elena Tsallagova Headline Opera Ballet Vlaanderen’s 2023-24 Season

Opera Ballet Vlaanderen has announced its 2023-24 season. Here are the opera and vocal performances.

Operas

First up is “La Clemenza di Tito” conducted by Alejo Pérez and Gaetano Lo Coco and directed by Milo Rau. The opera stars Jeremy Ovenden, Anna Malesza-Kutny, Anna Goryachova, Maria Warenberg, Sarah Yang, and Rueben Mbonambi.

Performance Dates: Sept. 10 – Oct. 26, 2023

Michiel Delanghe conducts Frederick Neyrinck and Johan De Smet’s children’s opera “Crusade.” The opera stars Jaouad Alloul, Laurence Servaes, Elisa Soster, and Marjan De Schutter. Johan De Smet directs.

Performance Dates: Oct. 26 – 29, 2023

Next up is “Die Fledermaus” with Alexander Joel conducting and Tom Goossens directing. Christoph Strehl, Maria Chabounia, Sarah Yang, Caterina Marchesini, and David Kerber star.

Performance Dates: Nov. 5 – 21, 2023

Maja Westerveld directs her very own “Schemer” in co-production with Abattoir Fermé & All Arias. Joris Derder and Issak Duerinck conduct.

Performance Dates: Nov. 10 – Dec. 2, 2023

“Les Pêcheurs de Perles” will be conducted by Karel Deseure with direction by FC Bergman. The opera will star Elena Tsallagova, Sarah Yang, Marc Laho, and Stefan Cifolelli.

Performance Dates: Dec. 15, 2023 – Jan. 23, 2024 

Marit Strindlund will conduct Daan Janssens’s “Brodeck.” Fabrice Murgia directs a production starring Elisa Soster and Damien Pass.

Performance Dates: Feb. 9 – March 9, 2024

Alain Platel’s “Ombra” will be headlined by TK Russell. Marc Piollet conducts with Platel directing.

Performance Dates: March 30 – May 8, 2024

The season ends with “Jenufa.” Alejo Pérez conducts a production by Robert Carsen. The opera stars Agneta Eichenholz, Jamez McCorkle, Ladislav Elgr, and Natascha Petrinsky.

Performance Dates: June 5 – July 9, 2024

Concerts

The company will present Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in dialogue with Strauss’ “Metamorphosen.” Alejo Pérez conducts a cast starring Agneta Eichenholz, Maria Riccarda Wesseling, David Stout, and Ladislav Elgr.

Performance Dates: June 22 – 23, 2024 

Fauré’s “Requiem” will be conducted by Alejo Pérez with such soloists as Shira Patchornik, Marcel Brunner, and Lotte Verstaen.

Performance Dates: Sept. 28– Oct. 4, 2023
