Adina Aaron, Ludovic Tézier, Helena Juntunen, Matthew Polenzani, Tuija Knihtilä Headline Savonlinna Opera Festival 2022

The Savonlinna Opera Festival has announced its 2022 festival, which will feature five operas and several concerts.

First up will be a new production of Verdi’s “Aida” by director Phillipp Himmelmann who asserts that “’Aida’ must be retold, because the world has changed irrevocably.”

The opera will star Adina Aaron and Helena Juntunen sharing the title role alongside Gaston Rivero, Agnieszka Rehlis, Ève-Maud Hubeaux, Tommi Hakala, Timo Riihonen, Tapani Plathan, and Iris Candelaria.

Performance Dates: July 1 – 30, 2022

Ramón Tebar conducts Marianne Mörck’s production of “Carmen” which will star Tuija Knihtilä, Amadi Lagha, Marjukka Tepponen, Annika Leino, Łukasz Goliński, Andrei Kymach, Joonas Asikainen, and Simo Mäkinen.

Performance Dates: July 2 – 21, 2022

Carlo Montanaro conducts Keith Warner’s production of “Tosca” which will star Miina-Liisa Värelä, Ludovic Tézier, and Matthew Polenzani.

Performance Dates: July 7 – 15, 2022

Ville Matvejeff conducts Marin Blažević production of “Giulio Cesare” with a cast headlined by Diana Haller, Anamarija Knego, Michaela Selinger, Dubravka Šeparović Mušović, Sonja Runje, Luka Ortar, Franko Klisović, and Ivan Šimatović.

Performance Dates: July 26-30, 2022

The company will present a double bill of Busoni’s “Arlecchino” and Puccini’sGianni Schicchi” conducted by Valentin Egel and directed by Marin Blažević (“Arlecchino”) and Fabrizio Melano (“Gianni Schicchi”).

Performance Dates: July 27 & 29, 2022

Baritone Ludovic Tézier will perform a recital alongside soprano Cassandra Berthon featuring music by Fauré, Poulenc, Bellini, and Verdi, among others.
