Adela Zaharia, Maria Kataeva, Elena Sancho Pereg & Elisabet Strid Headline Deutsche Oper am Rhein’s 2021-22 Season

The Deutsche Oper am Rhein has announced its 2021-22 season. Here is the full slate.

Opera Premieres

Dorottya Láng and Bogdan Taloş star in Demis Volpi’s production of Béla Bartók’s “Bluebeard’s Castle” with Axel Kober conducting.

Performance dates: Sep. 10 – Oct. 2, 2021

Mieczysław Weinberg’s opera “MaselTov!” spotlights Lavinia Dames, Kimberley Boettger-Soller, Anna Harvey, Sylvia Hamvasi, Heidi Elisabeth Meier, Jorge Espino, Roman Hoza, and Norbert Ernst. Ralf Lange conducts a production by Philipp Westerbarkei.

Performance dates: Sep. 25 – Nov. 25, 2021

Manuel de Falla’s “Meister Pedros Puppenspiel” showcases Sergej Khomov, Johannes Preißinger, Sander de Jong, David Fischer, Valerie Eickhoff, Jake Muffett, and Richard Šveda. Ralf Lange conducts a production by Ilaria Lanzino and Torge Möller.

Performance dates: Sep. 24 – Nov. 24, 2021

Sarah Ferede and Luiza Fatyol share the role of Vitellia, Maria Kataeva performs Sesto, and Jussi Myllys stars in the title role in Michael Schulz’s production of Mozart‘s “La Clemenza di Tito.” Anna Harvey, Lavinia Dames, Heidi Elisabeth Meier, Torben Jürgens, and Beniamin Pop round out the cast with Marie Jacquot conducting.

Performance dates: Oct. 9 – Dec. 29, 2021

Wagner‘s “Tristan und Isolde” stars Hans-Peter König as König Marke, Katarzyna Kuncio as Brangäne, Richard Šveda and Christoph Pohl in the role of Kurwenal, Dmitri Vargin as Melot, as well as Daniel Frank and Alexandra Petersamer in the title roles. Axel Kober conducts a production by Dorian Dreher.

Performance dates: Oct. 31 – Nov. 14, 2021

Performances of Bach’s “Weihnachtsoratorium” spotlight Ekaterina Aleksandrova, Morenike Fadayomi, Luiza Fatyol, Sarah Ferede, Anke Krabbe, Susan Mclean, Cornel Frey, Torben Jürgens, Jake Muffett, Johannes Preißinger, Florian Simson, Luke Stoker, Andrés Sulbarán, and Terry Wey. Axel Kober and Gerhard Michalski conduct a production by Elisabeth Stöppler.

Performance dates: Dec. 11, 2021 – Jan. 22, 2022

Elena Sancho Pereg takes on Eurydice, and Andrés Sulbarán stars in the title role in Barrie Kosky’s production of Offenbach‘s “Orphée aux enfers.” Susan Maclean, Max Hopp, Florian Simson, Romana Noack, Heidi Elisabeth Meier, Peter Bording, Katarzyna Kuncio, Torben Jürgens, Valerie Eickhoff, and Johannes Preißinger round out the cast with Marie Jacquot and Patrick Francis conducting.

Sami Luttinen portrays Dikoj, Daniel Frank interprets Boris, and Sylvia Hamvasi stars in the title role in Tatjana Gürbaca’s production of Leoš Janáček‘s “Káťa Kabanová.” Renée Morloc, Matthias Klink, Cornel Frey, Anna Harvey, Roman Hoza, and Ekaterina Aleksandrova round out the cast with Axel Kober conducting.

Viktor Ullmann’s “Der Kaiser von Atlantis” features Emmett O’Hanlon, Thorsten Grümbel, Luke Stoker, David Fischer, Sergej Khomov, Anke Krabbe, and Kimberley Boettger-Soller. Christoph Stöcker conducts a production by Ilaria Lanzino.

Performance dates: May 12 – June 11, 2022

Liana Aleksanyan appears as Maddalena di Coigny, Boris Statsenko performs Carlo Gérard, and Sergey Polyakov stars in the title role in Dmitry Bertman’s production of Umberto Giordano‘s operatic masterwork “Andrea Chénier.” Sarah Ferede, Susan Maclean, Katarzyna Kuncio, Jake Muffett, Jorge Espino, Beniamin Pop, Dmitri Vargin, Florian Simson, Luis Fernando Piedra, and Peter Nikolaus Kante round out the cast with Antonino Fogliani conducting.

Performance dates: May 14 – June 5, 2022

Boris Statsenko stars in the title role in Michael Thalheimer’s production of Verdi‘s “Macbeth.” Bogdan Taloş, Chorong Kim, Ovidiu Purcel, and David Fischer round out the cast with Stefan Blunier conducting.

Opera Revivals

David Fischer, Jussi Myllys, and Ovidiu Purcel perform Tamino; Lavinia Dames and Anke Krabbe portray Pamina; Heidi Elisabeth Meier and Aleksandra Olczyk appear as Die Königin der Nacht; and Thorsten Grümbel and Luke Stoker star as Sarastro in Barrie Kosky’s production of Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte.”

Luiza Fatyol, Sylvia Hamvasi, Kimberley Boettger-Soller, Anna Harvey, Katarzyna Kuncio, Susan Maclean, Ramona Zaharia, Roman Hoza, and Richard Šveda round out the cast with Peter Halasz and Axel Kober conducting.

Performance dates: Sep. 5, 2021 – March 4, 2022

Rossini‘s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” will have two casts and will spotlight Valerie Eickhoff, Maria Kataeva, Leonardo Ferrando, Cornel Frey, Jorge Espino, Emmett O’Hanlon, Pablo Ruiz, Bartosz Urbanowicz, Anke Krabbe, Heidi Elisabeth Meier, Sami Luttinen, Thorsten Grümbel, Jake Muffett, and Luvuyu Mbundu. Marie Jacquot and Patrick Francis conduct a production by Maurice Lenhard.

Emmett O’Hanlon sings Count Almaviva, Liana Aleksanyan appears as Countess Almaviva, Paula Iancic portrays Susanna, and Beniamin Pop stars in the title role in Michael Hampe’s production of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro.” Valerie Eickhoff, Katarzyna Kuncio, Günes Gürle, Florian Simson, Luis Fernando Piedra, Chorong Kim, and Peter Nikolaus Kante round out the cast with Benjamin Reiners conducting.

Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel” has multiple casts, and will star Kimberley Boettger-Soller, Valerie Eickhoff, Anna Harvey, Heidi Elisabeth Meier, Lavinia Dames, Anke Krabbe, Renée Morloc, Romana Noack, Stefan Heidemann, Richard Šveda, Morenike Fadayomi, Cornel Frey, Florian Simson, Ekaterina Aleksandrova, Carmen Artaza, and Chorong Kim. Péter Halász and Marie Jacquot conduct a production by Andreas Meyer-Hanno.

Ovidiu Purcel takes on Edgardo, Bogdan Baciu performs Enrico, and Adela Zaharia stars in the title role in Christof Loy’s production of Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor.” Jussi Myllys, Bogdan Taloş, Luke Stoker, Ekaterina Aleksandrova, and Sander de Jong round out the cast with Axel Kober conducting.

Performance dates: April 14 – May 25, 2022

A double bill of Mascagni‘s “Cavalleria Rusticana” and Leoncavallo‘s “Pagliacci” spotlights Morenike Fadayomi as Santuzza, Eduardo Aladrén and Irakli Kakhidze as Turiddu, Carlo Ventre as Canio, and Sylvia Hamvasi and Anna Princeva as Nedda. The cast also includes Susan Mclean, Stefan Heidemann, Carmen Artaza, Valerie Eickhoff, Anooshah Golesorkhi, David Fischer, Andrés Sulbarán, Jorge Espino, and Emmett O’Hanlon. Corby Welch portrays Siegmund, Elisabet Strid and Sarah Ferede interpret Sieglinde, Linda Watson takes on Brünnhilde, and Simon Neal stars as Wotan in Dietrich W. Hilsdorf’s production of “Die Walküre.” Hans-Peter König, Katarzyna Kuncio, Luiza Fatyol, Carmen Artaza, Anke Krabbe, Sylvia Hamvasi, Kimberley Boettger-Soller, Anna Harvey, and Romana Noack round out the cast with Axel Kober conducting.
