Academy of Vocal Arts’ 2023-24 Season to Feature Three Opera Productions

The Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) has unveiled its 2023-24 season.

It all kicks off with a few events prior to the official season launch. Among these is “Ocean City Pop’s ‘Opera Superstars of Tomorrow” at Ocean City Music Pier in New Jersey. The showcase stars Jenny Anne Flory and Angel Raii Gomez alongside conductor Vince Lee and the Ocean City Pops.

Performance Date: August 23, 2023

Next up is “Opera! Pike! Park!” at Ann St. Park in Milford, PA. The showcase features arias, Neapolitan songs, and Broadway tunes as performed by AVA singers.

Performance Date: August 28, 2023

The company will also perform as part of Opera Philadelphia’s O23 Festival.

Performance Dates: Sept 23, 27 & 30, 2023

There will be a “New Artists Recital” featuring pianist José Meléndez, among others.

Performance Dates: Oct. 3 & 5, 2023

The Giargari Bel Canto Competition is set to return.

Performance Date: Oct. 13, 2023

The season proper opens with “Anna Bolena” as conducted by Steven White. The director will be announced at a later date.

Performance Dates: Nov. 11 – 28, 2023

There will be a Winter Recital with Luke Housner accompanying the soloists.

Performance Dates: Jan. 9 & 11, 2024

Christopher Macatsoris conducts “The Rape of Lucretia” in a production by Tara Faircloth, making her AVA debut.

Performance Dates: Feb. 17 – 24, 2024

The “Jubilate! A Concert of Sacred Music” returns with performances at Bryn Mawr, Church of the Redeemer, and Center City, Church of the Holy Trinity. David Anthony Lofton conducts.

Performance Dates: March 16 & 17, 2024

Jeffrey Buchman will direct “The Barber of Seville.”

Performance Date: April 27 – May 12, 2024

The season ends with the Farewell Recital. José Meléndez accompanies.

Performance Date: May 17, 2024
