The Académie de l’Opéra de Paris is set to present “Il Nerone” this spring.

“Il Nerone” is the original title used for the premiere of Monteverdi’s “L’Incoronazione di Poppea” when it appeared in Paris in 1647. This new production will be directed by Alain Françon and will be conducted by Vincente Dumestre, who will lead Le Poème Harmonique.

Taking on the role of Poppea will be Marine Chagnon with Fernando Escalona as Nerone. Octavia will be played by Lucie Peyramaure with Ottone interpreted by Leopold Gillotts-Laforge. In the roles of Fortuna and Drusilla, audiences will see Martina Russomano. Kseniia Proshina will take on the task of Amore and Valetto, while Lise Nougier will play both Virtu and Nutrice. Filling out the cast will be Léo Fernique as Arnalta, as well as Thomas Ricard and Yiorgo Ioannou in multiple roles.

The opera will be presented at l’Athénée Théâtre Louis-Jovet between March 2 through 12 before heading the Opéra de Dijon between March 20 through 26 and the Maison de la Culture d’Amiens on April 1, 2022.
