ABAO Bilbao Opera Cancels ‘Tosca’ Production, Expands On Stage Cycle

By Nicolas Quiroga

ABAO Bilbao Opera has canceled its May production of “Tosca” and announced new recital performances as part of its ABAO On Stage cycle.

Due to the sanitary restrictions imposed by the authorities in light of the continued spread of COVID-19, the organization has decided to cancel its presentations of “Tosca.” To move forward with the production, the company would have to limit audience capacity, which would in turn force an expansion of the number of performances. Unfortunately, this is simply not feasible and the decision has been made to cancel the production.

On April 17, the company will present a new recital featuring baritone Carlos Álvarez alongside Rocío Ignacio. The two will perform duos and arias.

On April 24, ABAO On Stage will bring together eight great artists as homage to culture: Carmen Solís, Itziar de Unda, Silvia Tro Santafé, Celso Albelo, Sergio Escobar, Moisés Marín, Juan Jesús Rodríguez, and Simón Orfila.

In April, the company will present recitals featuring Sondra Radvanovsky (May 1) and Sonya Yoncheva (May 22), followed by “Tosca on Stage,” a recital featuring Ainhoa Arteta, Teodor Ilincai, and Roberto Frontali (May 29).
