Mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili will give a recital at the ABAO Bilbao Ópera on Feb. 27, 2020.

Rachvelishvili will perform in lieu of Ermonela Jaho, who was previously scheduled for this showcase. The mezzo-soprano will be accompanied by pianist Vincenzo Scalera.

Anita Rachvelishvili recently tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time, forcing a live stream of “Carmen” at the Wiener Staatsoper to be rescheduled for Feb. 21, 2021. The outbreak at the Wiener Staatsoper also ended up in the hospitalization of American tenor Charles Castronovo, who was scheduled to sing the role of Don José.

Anita Rachvelishvili recently performed the title role in Bizet’s “Carmen” at the Staatsoper unter der Linden, the role of Eboli in Verdi’s “Don Carlo” at Opéra National de Paris, and the role of Santuzza in Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana” at De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam. The mezzo-soprano was also spotlighted in the role of Amneris in the concert performances of Verdi’s “Aida” at Teatro di San Carlo and Teatro alla Scala.

Rachvelishvili is scheduled to return to the stage for the run of Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur” at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in April and May 2021, before appearing in “Aida” at Arena di Verona and the Bayerische Staatsoper in June and July 2021.
