The ABAO Bilbao Ópera has announced the cancelation of its whole run of Donizetti’s opera “L’elisir d’amore” due to continued concerns over COVID-19.

The opera was slated for a series of performances between Feb. 20 and March 1, 2021, but existing restrictions made it impossible to follow through with the previously organized schedule.

The opera was set to star Elena Sancho Pereg, Itziar de Unda, Joel Prieto, Moisés Marín, Pablo Ruiz, David Menéndez, and Helena Orcoyen. Óliver Díaz was signed on to conduct the production by Marina Bianchi.

The opera house has already canceled the run of Saint-Saëns’ opera “Samson et Dalila” with Ekaterina Semenchuk and Marco Berti, which was set for performances between Jan. 23 and Feb. 1, 2021.
