The ABAO Bilbao Opera has announced a major cast change for its upcoming production of “Eine Florentinische Tragödie.”

The company revealed that German bass-baritone Carsten Wittmoser will be making his company debut, taking over the role of Simone for Eglis Silins who had to withdraw due to health reasons.

Wittmoser has sung at the most prestigious opera houses in Europe and America including the Berlin State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, State Opera Munich, Teatro Real de Madrid, Opera Monte-Carlo, Opera de Bellas Artes de Mexico City, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

“Eine Florentinische Tragödie” will appear as part of a double bill alongside “La Voix Humaine,” both of which will be presented starting on Feb. 19 and running through Feb. 28 for four total performances. “La Voix Humaine” will star Nicola Beller Carbone while “Eine Florentinische Tragödie” will also feature Giorgio Berrugi. All three artists will be making their ABAO Bilbao debuts.

This season, Wittmoser will also participate in productions and performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem, Schubert’s “Winterreise,” and “Fidelio.”
