Metropolitan Opera Announces Major Plans for Kathryn Lewek
By Francisco SalazarThe Metropolitan Opera has announced major plans for soprano Kathryn Lewek.
The American soprano who is currently performing the Queen of the Night in the holiday version of “The Magic Flute” at the Met is set to make her role debut as Pamina in a future season.
The New York Times noted that “She has been engaged to sing Queen and Pamina alternately in a ‘Magic Flute’ run in 2026.”
The newspaper also noted that Lewek would sing Musetta in “La Bohème” in the 2026-27 season and Violetta in Verdi’s “La Traviata” in 2028.
Lewek is best known for her Queen of the Night and has performed the role 350 performances of the role in more than 30 productions. Lewek made her Met debut in 2013 and has performed the Queen of the Night 68 times with the house, her only role to date. Of her Met Queen of the Night OperaWire noted, “And while it is easy to play this ‘villain’ in one dimension, Lewek always seems to find shades and colors to explore.”
