Pocket Opera to Present Unique ‘The Magic Flute’ Production

Pocket Opera is set to present “The Magic Flute” on April 13, 2025 at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco.

The production was conceived during the pandemic in 2021, the work was created by the Gibbs Sisters, Shawnelle Gibbs and Shawneé Gibbs, both Emmy-nominated writers and storytellers. The opera was set in ancient Egypt and features animation from Sinare Animation Studios.

Live-action sequences were directed by Margo Hall and the score was conducted by Alex Taite. It stars Shawnette Sulker, Awele Makeba, Kenneth Kellog, Orson Van Gay, Wesley Guimaraes, Rabihah Dunn, Ariel Timmons, Phillip Harris, Rotimi Agbabiaka, and Michele Kennedy.

The production will be paired with “Bastien und Bastienne.” That opera stars Carmyn Finn and Sidney Ragland. Lyne Morrow conducts and Chase Kupperberg directs.
