The Canadian Opera Company has announced its 2022-23 season featuring seven productions and a world premiere.

The season kicks off with Richard Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” directed by Christopher Alden and stars Danish bass-baritone Johan Reuter. The cast also includes Marjorie Owens as Senta, Franz-Josef Selig, Miles Mykkanen, Christopher Ventris, and Rosie Aldridge. COC Music Director Johannes Debus leads the COC Orchestra.

Performance Dates: Oct. 7-23, 2022

J’Nai Bridges and Rihab Chaieb lead Bizet’s “Carmen” with Marcelo Puente, Joyce El-Khoury, Anna-Sophie Neher, and Lucas Meachem. Joel Ivany of Edmonton Opera puts his unique directorial stamp on the opera with conductor Jacques Lacombe.

Performance Dates: Oct. 14-Nov. 4, 2022

Luca Pisaroni, Louise Alder, Gordon Bintner, Johanni van Oostrum, and Emily Fons star in Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” with director Claus Guth helming the production. Harry Bicket conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 27-Feb. 18, 2023

Canadian soprano Ambur Braid leads Richard Strauss’ “Salome” with Michael Schade, Karita Mattila, and Frédéric Antoun. COC Music Director Johannes Debus conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 3-24, 2023

Verdi’s “Macbeth” will feature Quinn Kelsey and Sondra Radvanovsky. The work will also star Önay Köse and Matthew Cairns. Sir David McVicar directs and Speranza Scappucci conducts.

Performance Dates: April 28-May 20, 2023

Rising Moldovan soprano Olga Busuioc makes her COC debut in Puccini’s “Tosca” with Stefano La Colla and Roland Wood. Scottish opera director Paul Curran leads the COC revival, with Italian conductor Giuliano Carella directing.

Performance Dates: May 5-27, 2023

The COC’s 22/23 season closes with “Pomegranate” by composer Kye Marshall and librettist Amanda Hale, and co-produced by the Canadian Opera Company and Vancouver Opera. Director Jennifer Tarver leads the intimate exploration, with Rosemary Thomson conducting, and Price Family Chorus Master Sandra Horst leading the COC Chorus.
