Westwind Orchard to hold Concert Premiere for Neil Cohen’s ‘Da Ponte’

By Logan Martell

On June 4, 2022, Westwind Orchard will present a recital of Neil Cohen and Roger Neill’s new musical comedy “Da Ponte.”

This new work will follow the life of the famous librettist, exploring his partnership with Mozart, and how he came to run a grocery store in New Jersey. The program will feature operatic favorites by Mozart, such as “La vendetta,” “Non piu andrai,” “Voi che sapete,” from “La Nozze di Figaro,” and “Vedrai, carino” from “Don Giovanni.” There will also be the finale from “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” as well as selections from contemporaries of Mozart, and original music by Neill.

The recital will feature soprano Katherine KC Peck, mezzo-soprano Madison Marie McIntosh, and baritones Will Remmers, Alan Smulen, and Wil Kellerman.

Neil Cohen is a playwright whose works have been produced in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. He was the co-writer and co-director of the underground indie cult comedy film Chief Zabu, which was featured in The New York Times.

Composer Roger Neill has scored a number of television shows and films, serving as the primary composer for Mike Judge’s “King of the Hill,” as well as winning two Golden Globes and an Emmy for the Amazon Studios series “Mozart in the Jungle.”
