By Chris Ruel

Des Plaines Theatre has announced “Voices for Peace,” a free fundraising concert for Ukraine. The event will take place at the theater on April 12, 2022.

Special guests, the DePaul University Ensemble, and accordionist Mario Pizzoferrato, will join vocalists representing a cross section of the global community. These include sopranos Tetyana Torzhevska (Ukrainian) and Christine Steyer (American); mezzo-soprano Jennifer Kosharsky (Polish); tenors Simon K. Lee (Korean), Franco Martorana (Italian), Oscar Menoyo (Argentinian- Spanish), David Kakareko (Polish); bass-baritones Aaron Wardell (American), Bill Powers (Polish/German); and pianist Anatoliy Torchinskiy (Ukraine/Jewish).

The musically eclectic program addresses themes of sorrow, justice, peace, prayer, and hope, and will feature several of opera’s most familiar pieces with music by Gounod, Handel, Leoncavallo, Massenet, Puccini, Saint-Saens, and Verdi.

Donations can be made online or at the show, with all proceeds benefitting Ukraine.
