Catherine Foster, Adrian Angelico, Kangmin Justin Kim & Günther Groissböck Lead Staatstheater Wiesbaden’s 2021-22 Season

The Staatstheater Wiesbaden in Germany has announced its 2021-22 season featuring new productions, revivals, and jung oper.

Premieres 

Alexander Joel and Christoph Stiller conduct a new production of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” by Philipp M. Krenn. The work stars Aluda Todua, Aleksei Isaev, Cristiana Oliveira, Vesselina Kasarova, Jordanka Milkova, and Aaron Cawley.

Performance Dates: Sept. 19, 2021-July 15, 2022

“Cabaret” is set to star Lina Habicht, Elissa Huber, Julian Culemann, and Evelyn M. Faber. Levi Hammer conducts the new production Iris Limbarth. 

Performance Dates: Oct. 16, 2021-July 22, 2022

Marco Jentzsch, Andreas Schager, Barbara Haveman, and Catherine Foster star in Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” in a new production by  Uwe Eric Laufenberg. GMD Patrick Lange conducts the production that includes Albert Pesendorfer, Young Doo Park, René Pape, Thomas de Vries, Khatuna Mikaberidze, and Margarete Joswig.

Performance Dates: Nov. 7 2021-June 6, 2022

Ioan Hotea stars in a new production of Massenet’s “Werther” with Ingo Kerkhof directing. Peter Rundel conducts the production that also stars Christopher Bolduc, Silvia Hauer, Anna El-Khashem, and Michelle Ryan.

Performance Dates: Dec. 19, 2021-Feb. 19, 2022

Patrick Lange conducts Tchaikovsky’s “Pique Dame” in a production by Uwe Eric Laufenberg. The opera will star Aaron Cawley, Thomas de Vries, Benjamin Russell, Olesya Golovneva, Silvia Hauer, and Romina Boscolo. 

Performance Dates: Jan. 22-March 19, 2022

Rodrigo Porras Garulo sings the title role in Verdi’s “Don Carlo” in Uwe Eric Laufenberg’s new production. Timo Riihonen, Young Doo Park, and Günther Groissböck alternate as King Phillip, Aluda Todua sings Posa while Young Doo Park and Timo Riihonen alternate the Grand Inquistor. Cristina Pasaroiu and Lena Belkina round out the cast as Elizabeth and Eboli.

Performance Dates: March 20-June 18, 2022

Widmann’s “Babylon” will be conducted by Albert Horne and directed by Daniela Kerck. The production will star Gloria Rehm, Michelle Ryan, Claudio Otelli, Otto Katzameier, Andrea Baker, and Philipp Mathmann.

Performance Dates: May 1-July 14, 2022

Revivals

Loewe’s “The Fair Lady” is set to star Uwe Eric Laufenberg, Mira Benser, Michael Birnbaum, Uwe Kraus, Björn Breckheimer, Margit Schulte-Tigges, and Evelyn M. Faber. Christoph Stiller and Holger Reinhardt conduct.

Performance Dates: Sept. 5, 2021-July 10, 2022

Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” will star Benjamin Russell, Johannes Martin Kränzle, Sumi Hwang, Slávka Zámečníková, Anna El-Khashem, Konstantin Krimmel, Heather Engebretson, and Silvia Hauer. Konrad Junghänel conducting.

Performance Dates: Sept. 12, 2021-May 19, 2022

Konrad Junghänel conducts Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” with Young Doo Park, Albert Pesendorfer, Julian Habermann, Martin Piskorski, Aleksandra Jovanović, Anna El-Khashem, Sumi Hwang, Christopher Bolduc, and Benjamin Russell.

Performance Dates: Sept. 26, 2021-July 24, 2022

Puccini’s “Il Trittico” returns to the stage. Daniel Luis de Vicente, Aaron Cawley, Olesya Golovneva, and Romina Boscolo star in “Il Tabarro,” while Olesya Golovneva and Romina Boscolo star in “Suor Angelica.” “Gianni Schicchi” will star Daniel Luis de Vicente, Olesya Golovneva, Romina Boscolo, and Ioan Hotea.

Performance Dates: Oct. 3-24, 2021

Sharon Kempton and Fleuranne Brockway lead Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” in time for the holiday season alongside Kangmin Justin Kim, Benjamin Russell, and Sharon Kempton. Patrick Lange conducts.

Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” is set star Christopher Bolduc in the title role, Sumi Hwang, Ioan Hotea, Young Doo Park, Heather Engebretson, Dinara Alieva, Patrick Carfizzi, and Marek Reichert.

Performance Dates: Jan. 30-May 20, 2022

Catherine Foster takes on the title role of Strauss’ “Elektra” with Dalia Schaechter as Klytämnestra, Elissa Huber as Chrysothemis, Young Doo Park as Orest, and Aaron Cawley as Ägisth. Patrick Lange conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 20-June 25, 2022

Mozart’s “Così fan tutte” will be lead by an ensemble that includes Sumi Hwang, Julia Lezhneva, Silvia Hauer, Pablo Martinez, Ioan Hotea, Christopher Bolduc, Stella An, Gloria Rehm, and Thomas de Vries.

Performance Dates: March 25-June 15, 2022
