Two major Spanish cities are inviting Plácido Domingo to return to their stages.

First, Domingo is scheduled to sing in Madrid on June 9 at the Auditorio Nacional de Madrid; the performance will be a benefit gala organized by the Fundación Excelentia for the Red Cross.

Performing alongside Domingo in the gala will be María José Siri, Jorge de León, Virginia Tola, Nicholas Brownlee, Marina Monzó, and Pablo Sainz Villegas.

In a statement, Domingo said, “Music unites us and it is part of the Red Cross project that was created more than a year ago to reduce the impact of the pandemic in the population and especially for the most vulnerable. I am thankful to all the artists that have added their names to this initiative.

Then on August 18, Domingo will also take the stage at the festival Starlite de Marbella alongside Ainhoa Arteta.

The news comes more than a year after several opera companies throughout Spain canceled Domingo’s contracts due to AGMA’s investigation into accusations of Sexual Misconduct against the famed singer.

“Faced with the difficult situation and after Domingo’s own statements in which he took complete responsibility for his actions, the Instituto Nacional de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música, in solidarity with the women affected, has taken the decision to cancel his performances at the Teatro Nacional de la Zarzuela on May 14 and 15,” the Instituto Nacional de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música said in an official statement per ABC Cultura at the time.

Domingo also canceled several performances in Spain in early 2020 due to the ongoing investigation.
