Deutsche Oper Berlin Announces Cast Change For ‘Die Zauberflöte’

The Deutsche Oper Berlin has a announced a cast change for its Feb. 8, 2020 performance of Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte.

The company announced that bass Tobias Kehrer will take over the role of Sarastro replacing Ante Jerkunica.

Kehrer recently performed the role of Truffaldin in Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” at the Teatro alla Scala, Hunding in Wagner’s “Die Walküre” at the Wiener Staatsoper, Count Gremin in “Eugene Onegin,” Sparafucile in “Rigoletto” and Don Basilio in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Kehrer will join a cast that includes Andrei Danilov, Siobhan Stagg, Seth Carico, Aleksandra Jovanovic, Jacquelyn Stucker, Karis Tucker, Anna Buslidze, Meechot Marrero, Simon Pauly, Padraic Rowan, Gideon Poppe, Burkhard Ulrich, Clemens Bieber and Andrew Harris.

Daniel Carter is set to conduct the production by Günter Krämer.

Ante Jerkunica is set to begin a run of “Parsifal” at the Opéra National du Rhin on Jan. 26 in the role of Gurnemanz.
