Joshua Guerrero & Sandra Lopez to Star in Florida Grand Opera’s ‘Madama Butterfly’

The Florida Grand Opera is set to open its 2020 slate with a production of Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly.”

The famed opera will open on Jan. 18, 2020 in a gala performance that will celebrate the company’s 79th anniversary. The opera will be conducted by Ramón Tebar and directed by E. Loren Meeker.

In the title role, audiences will get a chance to hear Sandra Lopez with Grammy Award-winner Joshua Guerrero will star as B.F. Pinkerton. Stephany Peña will take on the role of the loyal Suzuki with Grant Youngblood as the level-headed Sharpless.

Other cast members include Nicholas Nestorak (in his Florida Grand Opera debut), Michael Miller, and Rafael Porto. Nathan Matticks and Shaina Martinez will also be making their respective company debuts in the production.

The opera will run for a total of six performances with the first four between Jan. 18-26 taking place in Miami at the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House. The final two on Jan. 30 and Feb. 1 are set to be performed in Fort Lauderdale at the AuRene Theater.
