By Francisco Salazar

René Pape has revealed that he will not return to the Bayreuth Festival.

The German bass told Platea Magazine in a new interview that he did not identify with the festival nor its mission and therefore does not feel comfortable with the environment.

The bass also revealed a number of future plans including a return to New York to reprise his acclaimed “Boris Godunov” which he created in 2010 and plans to sing Baron Ochs in “Der Rosenkavalier” in Berlin.

He also noted that he would not debut the role of Hans Sachs in “Die Mesitersinger von Nürnberg” and that he was not sure of taking on the role of Wotan in a new Ring Cycle programmed for Berlin in the coming year.
