Pacific Opera To Present Puccini’s ‘Il Trittico’
By Nicole KuchtaPacific Opera will open its season with Puccini’s “Il Trittico,” the triple-bill of one-act operas “Il Tabarro,” “Suor Angelica,” and “Gianni Schicci.”
“Il Trittico” has not been produced in its entirety in Canada for over fifty years. The trio of operas requires a large cast and three sets, which can be complicated and costly. This production is the first in a series of donor-supported special events celebrating the company’s 40th anniversary.
Members of the cast, including baritone Todd Thomas, soprano Aviva Fortunata, tenor Adam Luther, and soprano Lara Ciekiewicz, will perform a variety of roles, allowing the audience to “witness the singers’ arc from supporting character to villain to comic genius in a single evening.”
Glynis Leyshon will direct, and Pacific Opera Artistic Director Timothy Vernon will conduct.
Performances will be held at Victoria’s Royal Theatre from Oct. 17 – 27, 2019.
