‘As One’ To Get Texas Premiere At Alamo City Opera

By David Salazar

On Jan. 19 and 20, the Alamo City Opera will present the Texas premiere of Laura Kaminsky, Mark Campbell, and Kimberly Reed’s “As One” at the Buena Vista Theatre.

The work will be showcased as part of DREAM WEEK and is set to star Liz Bouk as Hannah After as well as Jose Rubio as Hanna Before. Kristin Roach will conduct the Camerata San Antonio while Amy Hutchison will direct the performances. Kaminsky is set to be on hand for a Q & A session after each of the performances.

“As One” is one of the most popular American operas being performed at the moment, appearing around the country over the last few years. It has obtained rave reviews everywhere it has gone with the New York Classical Review noting that it is “a rich addition to the repertoire.” WQXR called it “artistically distinguished, socially important” and Opera News noted that the “piece… haunts and challenges its audience with questions about identity, authenticity, compassion, and the human desire for self-love and peace.”

The piece is also set to premiere at the New York City Opera later this season.
