Yonghoon Lee To Sing in Oct. 15 Performance of ‘Aida’ At Metropolitan Opera

Yonghoon Lee is set to replace Aleksandrs Antonenko in tonight’s performance of “Aida,” per the Metropolitan Opera’s official Twitter account.

“Yonghoon Lee will sing Radamès in tonight’s performance of Verdi’s Aida, replacing Aleksandrs Antonenko, who is ill #CastChange,” stated the tweet.

This is Lee’s first performance of the role at the Met and he is set to take over the entire run of the opera in January alongside Sondra Radvanovsky.

Antonenko has not had the smoothest of runs as the warrior Radamès. The tenor’s performance has been one major point of contention by critics and reviews for what has otherwise been a hailed production.

“It was the most disappointing performance of the evening by far, not to mention a blemish on an otherwise perfect evening,” said OperaWire’s review with regard to Antonenko’s performance on opening night of this year’s run.
