The Teatro Alla Scala has announced a cast change for its Verdi Requiem.

The company said, “Due to sudden illness, Antonio Poli will be unable to perform in this evening’s concert – Oct. 30 – and will be replaced by Francesco Meli.”

Meli is a well known tenor who has performed at the Teatro alla Scala for decades in such productions as “Tosca,” “Un Ballo in Maschera,” “Don Carlo,” “Macbeth,” “Nabucco,” Giovanna d’Arco,” “Maria Stuarda” and more.

He joins a cast that includes soprano Anna Netrebko, mezzo-soprano Caterina Piva, and bass Michele Pertusi. Riccardo Chailly conducts.
