Marie Selby Botanical Gardens will present its eleventh annual Jean and Alfred Goldstein Exhibition, titled “Verdi: Composer and Farmer,” from Feb. 7 through May 30, 2027, at its Downtown Sarasota campus.

The showcase will be presented in collaboration with conductor Victor DeRenzi.

The exhibition which will focus on Verdi’s activities as a gardener and farmer, combines objects and images displayed in the Richard and Ellen Sandor Museum of Botany and the Arts with horticultural vignettes throughout the Display Conservatory and gardens. The exhibition will also draw inspiration from selections of Verdi’s operatic music. A performance series will accompany the exhibition, with details to be announced.

DeRenzi, former Artistic Director of Sarasota Opera, will serve as Selby Gardens’ Honorary Curator for the exhibition.

“Verdi has been an extraordinary presence in my life, and I have always been fascinated not only by his genius as a composer, but by the man behind the music,” said DeRenzi, per an official press release. “His deep connection to the land, agriculture, and nature offers a compelling way to understand the source of his creativity.”
