For the third night in a row, the Santa Fe Opera has been forced to cancel a performance due to air quality related to the Frijoles Fire.

The company said, “For the health and safety of our artists, staff and patrons, tonight’s performance of ‘EUGENE ONEGIN’ (8/12) has been cancelled due to dangerous air quality from wildfire smoke in Santa Fe and surrounding areas. If you’re looking for a way to still hear the music, the opening night radio broadcasts of 2 of our 5 2026 productions are currently available to stream on-demand through the Santa Fe Opera and KHFM websites. And starting Monday at 6 pm MDT, the opening night radio broadcast of ‘EUGENE ONEGIN’ will be available for listening.”

The company added, “Thank you for your understanding and for your continued support of the Santa Fe Opera. If you are a ticket holder for 8/10, 8/11 or 8/12, please visit our website to learn more about your options, including refunds, exchanges and ticket donations. If you are a ticket holder for upcoming shows, please check santafeopera.org for the latest updates. Our thoughts are with the first responders working tirelessly to protect our communities, and with everyone affected by the ongoing wildfires.”

The company has already been forced to cancel performances of “Madama Butterfly” and “Rodelinda.”

According to reports, the Frijoles Fire is burning in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains a few miles southeast of Cundiyó and has grown to about 7,800 acres. The fires were first reported on August 4 a few miles southeast of Cundiyó and have since expanded.
