Sotto Voce will join the Avanti Festival Orchestra to present “Fidelio” this August.

The production, set to take the stage on Aug. 14 and 16, 2026 at Asbury Hall in Buffalo, will serve as the capstone of the third annual Buffalo Beethoven Festival and marks Sotto Voce’s third collaboration with conductor Mason Cancilla.

Soprano Amanda Santos will make her company debut as Leonore, opposite tenor Danny Leclerc, also debuting with Sotto Voce, as Florestan. Bass Tim Flynn takes on the role of Rocco. Soprano Jessie Downs, Sotto Voce’s founder and artistic director, will play Marzelline. Tenor Robert Flora rounds out the principal cast in his company debut as Jaquino.

Sotto Voce is a collectively run opera company based in Buffalo known for its “opera nouveau” approach, weaving film, movement, and other multidisciplinary elements into stagings of works including “The Magic Flute,” “Suor Angelica,” “Lucia di Lammermoor,” and “Cavalleria Rusticana.”

Avanti is an ensemble of musicians ranging from amateur to professional whose repertoire spans the Baroque through the Modern era and which also supports the development of young local soloists and composers, per an official press release.

Launched in 2024, the Buffalo Beethoven Festival drew an audience of more than 400 in its first season. Its second season, in 2025, spanned two weeks and included a choral performance of Beethoven’s Mass in C.
