Opéra National de Paris & Bibliothèque Nationale de France to Present Exhibition on Wagner’s ‘Ring Cycle’

By David Salazar

The Opéra National de Paris will present “Richard Wagner: Les Révolutions du Ring,” an exhibition tracing the history and influence of Wagner’s “Ring” cycle, at the Palais Garnier from Oct. 27, 2026 through Feb. 20, 2027.

The exhibition, organized in partnership with the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, coincides with the company’s new production of “Der Ring des Nibelungen” at the Opéra Bastille and the accompanying Festival Ring, scheduled for November 2026. It marks 150 years since the “Ring” cycle’s premiere in Bayreuth in 1876.

The exhibition explores the cycle’s origins, followed by its various staged interpretations over time and also includes works and interviews addressing the cycle’s influence on visual artists, choreographers, musicians, and theater practitioners.

The exhibition is curated by Marion Mirande, head of lyric publications and dramaturgy at the Opéra National de Paris, and Olivier Mabille, head of printed collections in the music department at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. A catalog will be published in conjunction with the exhibition by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux.
