Kristian Sallinen has been appointed Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra.

Sallinen, who is 25, will begin his three-year term next August, becoming the thirteenth Chief Conductor in the Finnish orchestra’s 96-year history. He follows in the footsteps of Matthew Halls.

This season, he returns to Brussels for two main-series engagements with the Philharmonic, along with concerts with the Gothenburg Symphony, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Münchener Kammerorchester, and more. Sallinen also makes his debut at the 2027 Savonlinna Opera Festival, conducting Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte.”
