AuditionAir Opens Grant Applications for Emerging Performers Facing Travel Barriers

By David Salazar

AuditionAir, a Michigan-based nonprofit dedicated to funding airfare for emerging performing artists, has opened applications for the 2026-2027 season.

Emerging artists may apply online at auditionair.org beginning May 15, with applications closing June 30, 2026.

Founded by Jeremy Zeltzer and Grammy Award-winning soprano Christine Goerke, the organization was created to help talented performers missing career-defining auditions simply because they could not afford to travel. Grants are awarded based on demonstrated financial need, artistic promise, and a confirmed audition or professional opportunity already in hand.

In its inaugural year, AuditionAir funded travel for Florida Grand Opera Studio Artists, enabling them to attend auditions across the country. The organization aims to support up to 30 artists in the coming season and plans to expand its reach beyond opera to include theater, orchestra, and film performers in future cycles.

“Too many gifted artists never make it into the room. A single audition can change a life. We exist to make sure artists can say yes when opportunity calls,” Zeltzer said, per an official press release.

“Generous support from Audition Air allowed me to travel to a pivotal audition,” said 2025 AuditionAir recipient Kendra Faith Beasely, per the organization’s official website. “Opportunities like this are essential for emerging artists; having the chance to stand in that audition room was a significant step in my career.  Audition Air’s kindness not only covered the cost of my flight but also reaffirmed my faith in the power of community in the arts, and knowing I was not alone on the journey, I was able to focus fully on my performance.

Other past AuditionAires include soprano Victorial Lawal and actor Ashley Poulin.
