Renée Fleming Cancels National Symphony Orchestra Concert at the Kennedy Center

By Francisco Salazar

Renée Fleming has canceled her appearance with the National Symphony Orchestra on May 29 and 30, 2026 at the Kennedy Center

The performing arts center announced the news stating, “Renée Fleming regrets that, due to a scheduling conflict, she must withdraw from her May 2026 concerts with the NSO. A new soloist and repertoire will be announced at a later date, and the remainder of the program remains unchanged.”

Fleming was set to perform alongside James Gaffigan in a program that included Charles Ives and Aaron Copland.

The cancelation comes as no surprise as the soprano resigned from her position as Artistic Advisor at Large to The Kennedy Center in February following President’s Takeover. In her resignation letter, the soprano said, “I’ve treasured the bi-partisan support for this institution as a beacon of America at our best. I hope the Kennedy Center continues to flourish and serve the passionate and diverse audience in our nation’s capital and across the country.”

Fleming is the latest artist to cancel a concert with the National Symphony Orchestra following Bela Fleck and is also the latest major artist to cancel a performance at the Kennedy Center following Stephen Schwartz, Lin-Manuel Miranda, The Cookers, and Kristy Lee.

Prior to the cancelation OperaWire reached out to the soprano’s representatives but received no comment.
