The Gran Teatre del Liceu has announced a cast change for its production of “Tristan und Isolde.”

The company said that Ekaterina Gubanova will replace Iréne Theorin, who is ill, in the role of Brangäne.

Gubanova recently opened the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma’s 2025-26 season in a production of “Lohengrin” and is set to sing the role of Brangäne at the Metropolitan Opera this season. She has performed the role at the Bayreuth Festival as well as at the Metropolitan Opera during the 2017-18 season.

Bárbara Lluch will direct the production that will also star Clay Hilley, Bryan Register, Brindley Sherratt, Lise Davidsen, Elena Pankratova, Tomasz Konieczny, and Roger Padullés. Susanna Mälkki conducts.

“Tristan und Isolde” opens on Jan. 12 and runs through Jan. 31, 2026.
