Metropolitan Opera to Present Holiday Presentation of ‘The Magic Flute’

The Metropolitan Opera’s annual holiday presentation of Julie Taymor’s English-language adaptation of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” returns for 15 performances.

The opera will be performed between Dec. 11 and Jan. 3, and will be conducted by Steven White, and Erin Yashima.

The work will star Rainelle Krause, Zhengyi Bai, Aigul Khismatullina, Erin Morley, Joshua Blue, Joshua Hopkins, Le Bu, and Matthew Rose.

On Dec. 14, a second cast will showcase Joélle Harvey, Paul Appleby, Michael Sumuel, Alexander Köpeczi, Harold Wilson and Thomas Capobianco.

On Dec. 14, from 12–2 p.m., children and families will be invited to experience the Met’s immersive Holiday Open House, with festive behind-the-scenes demonstrations by members of the Met’s backstage, artistic, and music staffs, including the Children’s Chorus. The event is free to all ticketholders for the matinee performance.

Attendees at all performances of “The Magic Flute” will receive free downloadable crafts and activity books. Holiday photo opportunities will be available throughout the house and complimentary face painting will be available in the South Lobby starting an hour before the Dec. 27, 29, 30, and Jan. 3 matinee performances.

The Dec. 11 and 20 performances of “The Magic Flute” will be broadcast live on the SiriusXM app.
