The Ivor Academy Announces New Commissioning Templates
By David SalazarThe Ivors Academy has introduced new commissioning template agreements to support composers working in classical music.
The new templates are being developed by legal experts with input from composers and commissioners and aim to ensure that new works are created under fair and transparent terms. The templates will cover single and co-commissioning agreements, and outline key areas including performance details, fees, copyright, recording, and composer crediting. They are written in plain English with notes explaining both legal and practical considerations.
“These templates empower composers to understand and protect their rights, and approach each commission with clarity and confidence,” said Ivors Academy CEO Roberto Neri, per an official press release. “They provide a foundation for trusted collaboration between composers and commissioners.”
We’re really pleased to share these new commissioning templates with the composing community,” added Emily Howard, composer and Board Director said. “For many composers – especially those taking on their first commissions – having a clear, trusted starting point can make a huge difference. These templates offer a framework that supports fairness, clarity and confidence on both sides, reflecting The Ivors Academy’s commitment to empowering music creators.”
The templates are free for Core and Professional members of The Ivor Academy.
