Teatro alla Scala Appoints New Casting Director
By Francisco SalazarThe Teatro alla Scala has appointed Sebastian F. Schwarz as its new casting director.
He take over the position starting March 1, 2026 and will succeed Alessandro Galoppini, who held the position since 2019.
In his new position Schwarz will work alongside General Director and Artistic Director Fortunato Ortombina and artistic Cooridnator Paolo Gavazzeni.
Born in Germany, Schwarz is a musician and manager who has worked with the Teatro Regio di Torino, Glyndebourne Festival, Festival della Valle d’Itria, Theater an der Wien and Wiener Kammeroper. He is also a professor and co-founder of the Concorso internazionale per l’Opera barocca ‘Pietro Antonio Cesti.’ In 2015 he was honored with the Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia dal Presidente della Repubblica Italiana.
