Toledo Opera to Present ‘The Bear Who Couldn’t Fish’
By David SalazarToledo Opera will present a free community performance of “The Bear Who Couldn’t Fish” on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. local time at Epworth United Methodist Church in Toledo.
The original children’s opera with music by Matthew Fossa and a libretto by Joshua Borths tells the story of a young bear learning perseverance and respect for nature through song and friendship.
The cast features the 2025–26 Resident Artists, including Sarah Rachel Bacani, Danielle Casós, Brady DelVecchio, Rick Hale, and pianist Yura Jang.
The production, directed by Toledo Opera General Director James M. Norman, is part of this year’s “Opera on Wheels program,” which brings live opera to schools and community venues across Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
“Our Resident Artists bring such incredible energy and artistry to this production,” said Norman, per an official press release. “‘The Bear Who Couldn’t Fish’ is a delightful way for families to experience opera together—it’s funny, heartfelt, and beautifully performed.”
A cookies-and-punch reception and meet-and-greet with the artists will follow the event.
