Opéra Louisiane Extends Artistic Director
By David SalazarOpéra Louisiane has announced that Michael Borowitz will continue as the company’s Artistic Director.
Borowitz, a conductor, pianist, and advocate for opera accessibility, has led Opéra Louisiane since 2011, helping the organization expand its repertory, its educational programs, and deepen its connection to the local community.
“I am so pleased to continue my work with Opéra Louisiane. Our community has embraced opera in so many inspiring ways, and I’m excited to build on the work we’ve already done together—bringing world-class productions to Baton Rouge and nurturing the next generation of opera lovers,” noted Borowitz per an official press release.
“Michael Borowitz’s steadfast commitment and unique artistic voice have been a stable force in Opéra Louisiane for many years,” added Board President Kathy Baker. “The board is thrilled to renew our partnership with Michael and looks forward to seeing the exciting possibilities created through his collaboration with General Director Paul Groves. Their combined passion and creative direction promise to elevate the opera experience in Baton Rouge to new heights.”
The Opéra Louisiane season opened in late September and will continue with a concert showcasing Lisette Oropesa and Susan Graham. Later in the year, audiences will get a chance to see productions of “Amahl and the Night Visitors” and “Madama Butterfly.”
