
Brian Large Receives Honor from Czech Ministry of Culture
By Francisco SalazarBrian Large has been awarded the Artis Bohemiae Amicis medal by the Czech Ministry of Culture.
Large is a veteran television director of opera and classical music.
He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Academy in 1991 and graduated from the University of London with a doctorate in both music and philosophy.
Large’s interest in Czech and Slavic opera resulted in the publication of two volumes on the music of Bedřich Smetana and Bohuslav Martinů.
He directed opera broadcasts at the Wiener Staatsoper, Metropolitan Opera, Volksoper Wien, Theater an der Wien, and Salzburger Festspiele.
