Opéra National de Paris Announces ‘Nouvelle Ère, Nouvel Air’ Renovation Project

The Opéra National de Paris has announced a new renovation project, titled “Nouvelle Ère, Nouvel Air.”

The announcement was made by Alexander Neef, the General Director of the opera company, and Rachida DATI, the minister of Culture of France.

The renovation will include the modernization of equipment, the improvement of work and public spaces, and to improve the theater’s interaction with the community.

The Opéra Bastille will get new machinery, lighting, sound, and video equipment and will be closed for two seasons prior to 2030.  The Palais Garnier will also get restoration to its facade as well as other technological improvements. The theater will be closed from summer 2027 through summer 2029 though visitors will still have access during the duration of construction. There will also be improvements made to L’École de Danse in Nanterre and the Atelier Berthier.

During these times, the company will continue to present performances in both theaters in alternating fashion. There will also be programming in other venues.
