2026 Premio Abbiati Winners Announced

The 45th edition of the Premio della critica musicale “Franco Abbiati” also know as the Premio Abbiati has been announced.

This year, the jury was composed of the Associazione Nazionale dei Critici Musicali featuring Andrea Estero, Alessandro Cammarano, Carlo Fiore, Gianluigi Mattietti, Carla Moreni, Roberta Pedrotti, and Alessandro Rigolli. Also in the jury were seven elected critics from the ANCM. Those were Attilio Cantore, Sandro Cappelletto, Susanna Franchi, Giancarlo Landini, Gregorio Moppi, Lorenzo Tozzi, and Gaia Varon.

The winner of the production award went to “Der junge Lord” by Hans Werner Henze directed by Daniele Menghini at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Alexander Soddy won the conductor award for his work at the Teatro alla Scala’s Ring Cycle and for productions of “Salome” and “Macbeth” at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

The director prize was awarded to Cecilia Ligorio for “Mitridate Eupatore” at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo and “Il re pastore” at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

Luca Salsi won the Male Singer Prize for “Macbeth” at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and “Rigoletto,” while Vida Miknevičiūtė  took the Female Singer Honors for “Die Walküre” with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Roma.

Best Set Design was given to Gary McCann for productions at the Teatro Regio di Torino and Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova while costume design was given to Giada Masi for a production at the Teatro Regio di Torino.

De Labyrintho won Best Ensemble while Musical Initiative was given to “Owen Wingrave” by Benjamin Britten at the Festival della Valle d’Itria di Martina Franca.
