2023 Dramatic Voices Showcase to Launch this March

By Afton Wooten

The new vocal workshop Dramatic Voices Showcase begins its inaugural year this March in Toronto.

Dramatic mezzo-soprano Karina Bray participated in the 2022 Bayreuther Festspiele Masterclass and returned home to Canada inspired to start this program. The purpose of the Dramatic Voices Showcase is to provide necessary training opportunities for dramatic singers that may have aged out of traditional young artist programs.

This year participants include sopranos Olivia Barnes and Patricia Haldane, tenor Sébastien Comtois, and Bray herself. Each participant will receive training from vocal coaches such as Jean MacPhail and Narmina Efendiyeva. Dramatic soprano Christine Goerke will lecture and conduct a masterclass.

Concluding the workshop there will be a concert featuring solo and ensemble numbers. The performance will be held at St. Timohty’s Anglican Church in Toronto on March at 4 p.m.

Application for the 2024 program will open in August.
