2022 Lotte Lenya Competition Announces Finalists
By Afton WootenThe Lotte Lenya Competition announced the final round of this year’s competition and the 11 finalists that will be competing.
The final will be held at Merkin Hall in New York City on May 6 beginning at 1 p.m.
Among the competitors are Ruth Acheampong, Eric Botto, Cierra Byrd, Katrina Galka, Francesca Mehrotra, Lauren Senden, Amanda Sheriff, Tristan Tournaud, Jeremy Weiss, Ronald Wilbur, and Ian Williams. The finalist will perform a fifteen-minute set that must include four works with one written by Kurt Weil. The top three winners will receive a cash prize ranging between $10,000 and $20,000.
The 2022 completion had over 250 applicants from 39 U.S. states and 21 countries. The 28 semifinalists were coached and given feedback from the panel of judges.
Tony Award-winning judge Victoria Clarke remarked that “Coaching this year was a joy for me! Each semifinalist brought imagination, skill, and tremendous heart to their program. As is always the case, they taught me more than I could ever teach them!”
This concert is free and open to the public.
