2020 Giorgio Merighi International Vocal Competition Announced

“European Generation,” with the support of the Dnipro Regional Council, Zaporizhzhya Regional Philharomic, and Dnipropetrovsk Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, has announced the Giorgio Merighi International Vocal Competition.

The competition is set to kick off in February taking place in three different countries including Italy, Greece, and Ukraine. The final, set for May 1 and 2, 2020, will take place in Ukraine.

Qualifying rounds are set to take place in Florence on Feb. 26, Verona on Feb. 27-29, Greece on March 25-30, and Ukraine on April 25-30.

The competition will be led by Yuri Simonov the President of “European Generation” with Vladimir Nazarov serving as the President of the Competition. Irina Konareva will be the Vice President of the Competition and Ines Salazar will be President of the Jury.

Merighi was a renowned tenor who appeared with such companies as the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Vienna State Opera, Opéra de Paris, and Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. He sang alongside side legendary arists as Fedora Barbieri, Renata Scotto, Martina Arroyo, Leona Mitchell, and Maria Guleghina. His final performances came as Radamès in “Aida.”
