The 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition, often called the “Olympics of Classical Music” will return on June 17 with a number of exciting changes.

The competition will once again be featured on medici.tv, which will have a whopping seven different channels to broadcast the competition’s different sections as well as a breaking news station for viewers to be kept up to date on the happenings of each day.

This year, the organization will expand the contestants to also include woodwinds and brass instrumentalists; there will continue to be contestants in the violin, cello, piano, and vocal categories.

The voice competition will include a unique addition, a voice prize in memory of Dmitri Hvorostovsky. It will include a $15,000 USD prize and a performance in Krasnoyarsk. This award is made possible by the patronage of vocal jury chair Sarah Billinghurst Solomon and Met Opera Chairman of the Board Ann Ziff.
