Opera Italiana is in the Air has announced two upcoming concert showcases in Washington D.C. and New York City.

First up, the company, led by conductor Alvise Casellati, will present a concert at the Lincoln Memorial on June 4, 2022. That will be followed up by a second performance at Central Park on June 27, 2022.

The concerts will feature the debut of Jordan Millar, a 15-year-old composer from Brooklyn who was been in the New York Philharmonic Young Composers Program since the age of nine.

“One of my main goals is to inspire young girls and young girls of color to write music and be authentic. You don’t see a lot of young female composers or a lot of young black composers and that’s important to me,” Millar said in an official press statement issued by the company. “How can we make it more inclusive and adapt it to fit where we are now? Hopefully through my work, which doesn’t sound like Bach or Beethoven, I can help open up that conversation.”

The performance will also feature soprano Jennifer Rowley and tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz.
