Poland’s largest vocal competition, the International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition will be held on June 11. The competition will be held at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw.

Celebrating its 11th year, the organization saw a record number of over 400 applicants. The 112 singers chosen come from six contents and 28 countries combined.

Selection panelist Agnieszka Rehlis said at the press conference, “the level of applications sent to the Competition was very high, with a large majority of soprano and baritone voices.” It was also noted at the press conference that the selection panelists from three countries – Agnieszka Rehlis from Poland, Sarah Playfair from Great Britain, and René Massis from France were hand-picked to ensure that the singers were assessed from various perspectives on musical style and vocal technique.

The competition will take place over three days with jury members such as chairman John Allison of Opera Magazine and John Hopper of the MET presiding. The final round of competition will conclude on June 11. After a performance of Polish songs performed by Jakub Józef Orliński and Michał Biel, the winners will be announced. The final is open to the public.

Previous winners of the Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition include Aleksandra Kurzak, Urszula Kryger, Olga Busuioc, and many other famed opera singers.
