Vienna State Opera 2017-18 Live Stream: Handel’s ‘Ariodante’ Hits the Web

Handel aficionados will get their dose of their beloved composer on Sunday, March 4, 2018 when the Vienna State Opera live streams “Ariodante” worldwide.

The performance is led by baroque specialist William Christie in a production by David McVicar. The cast features Sarah Connolly in the tile role, Chen Reiss as Ginevra, Hila Fahima as Dalinda, Christophe Dumaux as Polinesso, Rainer Trost as Lucranio, and Wilhelm Schwinghammer as Il Re di Scozia.

The stream kicks off at 5:30 p.m. local time and is slated to run until around 9:30 p.m. That’s around 11:30 a.m. EDT and 8:30 a.m. PST for the start time. This is the penultimate performance of this particular run, which kicked off on Feb. 24. In sum, there will be five showcases of the Handel opera this season.

While tickets start at 14 euros (approximately $16 USD) for most live streams, this one is special as it will be completely free of charge. All viewers must do is register with the website to enjoy this performance.

Next up on the slate of live streams will be “Otello,” the four installments of “Der Rings des Nibelungen,” “Turandot,” “Andrea Chénier,” “Simon Boccanegra,” “Capriccio,” “La Traviata,” “Rigoletto,” “Der Freischütz,” “Lohengrin,” and “Falstaff.”
