Top 5 Operas to See This Weekend – International (6/1-3): Ailyn Perez, Joyce El-Khoury & Mariella Devia Headline Weekend

The weekend is here and that means we have selections that we believe you can not miss. Here is a round up of five operas that include major superstars and rarely performed works.

Rigoletto – Wiener Staatsoper, Austria 

Juan Diego Flórez and Aida Garifullina sing Verdi’s ever-popular opera with Paolo Rumetz singing the title role. Ryan Speedo Green and Elena Maximova round out the cast, which will be conducted by Marco Armiliato.

L’Heure espagnole/Gianni Schicchi – Opéra de Paris, France 

Pairs’ double bill stars Michele Losier and Stanislas de Barbeyrac in the Ravel piece, while Vittorio Grigolo, Artur Ruciński, and Elsa Dreisig in Puccini’s comic masterpiece. Maxime Pascal conducts Laurent Pelly’s production.

La Traviata – Staatsoper Unter der Linden, Germany

Ailyn Pérez headlines a revival of Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Berlin State Opera. She is accompanied by a remarkable cast that includes Benjamin Bernheim and Alfredo Daza. Domingo Hindoyan conducts.

Mariella Devia in Concert – Palau de Les Arts, Spain 

On the heels of her final “Norma,” Mariella Devia returns to the Palau de Les Arts where she has had numerous successes. The concert will include arias from “Anna Bolena,” “Lucrezia Borgia,” “I Lombardi,” and “I Vespri Siciliani.”

Il Pirata – Theater St. Gallen, Switzerland

Joyce El-Khoury continues her acclaimed run of Bellini’s “Il Pirata.” Marco Caria and Arthur Espiritu also star in Ben Baur’s production. Pietro Rizzo continues conducting the production.
