Three Sopranos Replace Angela Gheorghiu In Verdi Gala

Angela Gheorghiu has canceled her participation in the Special Concert: Giuseppe Verdi at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

As a result, three sopranos will take over the repertoire Gheorghiu was originally intended to perform. Nicole Car, Irina Churilova, and Seyoung Park will all take turns singing arias from “Il Trovatore,” “La Forza del Destino,” “Otello,” and “Simon Boccanegra.”

Car is currently slated to sing “La Boheme” at the Semperoper Dresden as well as Gounod’s “Faust” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Churilova  is a Mariinsky Theatre member who is slated to perform “Aida,” “Otello,” and “La Forza del Destino.” Meanwhile, Park is at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia.”

The three sopranos will star alongside Saimir Pirgu under the direction of Paolo Arrivabeni on May 25.
