Sylvia Schwartz Replaces Nuria Rial In St. Matthew’s Passion

The Spanish National Orchestra and Chorus has announced that soprano Sylvia Schwartz will replace Nuria Rial in the upcoming performances of Bach’s “St. Matthew’s Passion.”

The English soprano has had a busy 2017-18 season singing “Don Giovanni” and “Falstaff” with the Budapest Festival Orchestra. She has also performed “Fidelio” with the Tokyo Philharmonic and is scheduled to perform numerous concert in Paris, Oxford, London, Montreal and Toronto.

Schwartz has appeared at many of the world’s greatest opera houses and festivals including La Scala Milan, Berlin Staatsoper, Wiener Staatsoper, Bayerische Staatsoper, The Bolshoi Theatre, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Edinburgh, Baden Baden, Salzburg and Verbier festivals.

Rial, who has become a specialist in the Renaissance and baroque musoc returns to the stage later this year.

The concerts are scheduled to take place on Feb. 9, 10, 11 under conductor David Afkham.
